Less than two weeks to go...

Hello everyone! The new building is now almost complete and ready to open to the public at 4am on Wednesday 26 th April. It seems crazy that almost four years on from the initial planning and development of the building we are now finally almost at the point of opening! So much hard work has been put in by both clinical and non-clinical colleagues to get to this point. The deep clinical clean has now been completed, and staff familiarisation continues in the new building. Our IT team have also been working hard to install all of the kit and ensure connectivity in preparation for ‘go live’. E-obs is scheduled to be introduced to the current ED on Wednesday 19 th April along with a NerveCentre Upgrade in readiness for the move. There will be plenty of support from the IT department and NerveCentre team during this time – staff should be able to identify these individuals by their bright yellow t-shirts!   The picture above shows the paediatric Emergency Department entrance.

Hello Everyone!  There are now only 25 days left until the new Emergency Department opens its doors to the public! All of the building work is now close to being complete, and contractors are due to officially leave the site on the 3 rd April. In our paediatric (children’s) ED the play areas are now being installed. There will be three distinct areas – for toddlers, children and teenagers. The picture below shows this progress. Staff familiarisation and training has also started in the new department.  Staff have been positive about their new department and everyone is enthusiastic to learn more about the environment they will soon be working in! The pictures below show a staff base close to completion and the paediatric ED lead Dr Sam Jones showing colleagues around. Staff who will be working in the Major’s area of the department have also been familiarising themselves with the new bigger space (please see the pictures below). Three sessions a day are bein

Hi Everyone, After three years in the making, we have now officially taken ownership of our new Emergency Department from Interserve Construction team. The Department is looking fantastic! Thank you to everyone who has been involved to date for all their hard work to get us to this point. Above: Our Chief Executive John Adler receiving the keys for the new building. As we move towards the opening on Wednesday 26 April, the construction team will be putting the finishing touches to the department, our IT team will ensure that all of the technology is working, whilst the ED team will start to familiarise themselves with the new space.  Colleagues from other parts of our organisation who provide direct patient care within ED will then be invited to look round the department with their teams.  Finally before the opening our cleaning crew will do a thorough clean and decontamination (deep clean) before the doors open to the first patients at 4am on Wednesday 26 April. Emergency Department Update - 9 Days Until Handover!

Hi Everyone, We are entering the final few days of construction work, with the contractors on schedule to hand over the keys to Leicester’s Hospitals on Monday 6 March! Work on the build started in 2015 so as the opening approaches it is a very exciting time for everyone involved.  Above: The new ambulance bay. When the building work has finished we will start training and begin to familiarise our staff to their new working environment. Lots of work is going on behind the scenes to make sure that everyone knows what they are doing and where everything is so that they can begin treating patients on Wednesday 26th April. Above: The Children’s Emergency Department waiting area. The Children’s Hospital rocket logo (paid for by Leicester Hospitals Charity) has recently been installed. Above: The spacious Adult Reception area is almost complete. Between Monday 6 th March and Wednesday 26th April (when the new department opens to the public), there is still

Paediatric Emergency Department Progress!

Image
Hello Everyone! It’s finally 2017, and there are only a handful of weeks until phase 1 of the Emergency Floor will be handed over by the contractors and open to the public! In readiness for this, we will be bringing you bi-weekly updates focusing on different areas within the new build. This week we will be focusing on the new Paediatric Emergency Department. The two pictures below show the entrance to the Paediatric department both inside and out. This is located along Infirmary Way opposite the Jarvis building and next to the Victoria building. Work continues to build the external walkway (picture below left).  Sound diffusing panels are now in place  in the Paediatric Atrium (picture below right).   Special frailty friendly rubber flooring has been laid in the new Paediatric Observation Ward (POW). Recognising that patients of all ages can be frail, charitable funding was used to make this enhancement which can only benefit our patients.
